Don’t miss the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL)! It happens on June 20th, making it a great opportunity for your child to begin their summer just that much safer. This is a global event, with hundreds of facilities and twenty countries taking part.
And it’s all in the name of one goal. That’s to help kids and adults become safer swimmers.
Swim lessons make kids safer. Research has shown us that much. Now it’s time to prove that community makes us stronger as we come together and enter the Guinness World Record Book with the goal of water safety.
We’re pleased to say that all five Njswim facilities will take part in the WLSL event.
What is the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
On the day of the World’s Largest Swim Lesson, you can expect a fun and productive day of swimming. Njswim teachers will work with students to complete swim level appropriate skills.
After completing the lesson, your swim teacher will ask participants, and/or their parents, to sign a form acknowledging completion of the lesson. Each student who participates will receive a certificate. This a great reinforcement and reminder of water safety for our students.
The certificate also offers bragging rights for being part of such a big and important event that is entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Toll of Unsafe Swimming
In 48 of the 85 countries monitored by the World Health Organization, drowning was a leading cause of death for young people. In the United States, one in five individuals that drown is aged 14 or younger. On a typical day, ten people will die by drowning. This makes learning swim safety and proper swim techniques critical.
41,814 kids participated in the WLSL last year, and we’re hoping we can make this year’s event even bigger. In the end, we’re hoping millions of people across the world will better understand water safety.
