The New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance (NJSSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting water safety and drowning prevention in New Jersey.
The organization was founded in 2018 by a group of concerned parents, community leaders, and aquatic professionals who recognized the need for a comprehensive approach to water safety education and drowning prevention.
Joe Oehme, owner of Njswim is a founding member of the organization and a long-standing advocate for water safety education in the State of New Jersey.
Drowning a Leading Cause of Death for Kids 4 and Under
Unfortunately, drowning is a leading cause of death among children aged 4 and under in New Jersey, as well as in many other parts of the world.
According to data from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children in this age group in the state.
Water Safety Education is Key
This is why organizations like the New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance are so important in educating parents and caregivers about water safety and drowning prevention strategies.
Children should never be left unattended near any body of water, including swimming pools, lakes, and even bathtubs.
It’s important for parents and caregivers to always keep a watchful eye on children and to teach them basic water safety skills, such as how to float and swim, and what to do in an emergency.
The NJSSA provides education and resources to parents and caregivers. They also work with community organizations and policymakers to promote legislation and policies that improve water safety and reduce drowning risks for children and families.
Through these efforts, the organization is helping to make New Jersey a safer place for everyone, especially the most vulnerable members of our communities.
The NJSSA Mission
The mission of the New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance is to reduce drowning and other water-related injuries through education, outreach, and advocacy.
NJSSA works with schools, community groups, and other organizations to provide water safety education and resources to children and adults.
They also work with pool owners and operators to ensure that their facilities meet safety standards and provide appropriate lifeguard coverage.
The New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to water safety education and resources, regardless of their socio-economic background.
They believe that drowning prevention is a community effort and that everyone has a role to play in keeping themselves and others safe around water.
