Our students, teachers, and swim families know Njswim is a fun and safe place to learn to swim. Walk into any of our six New Jersey locations and hear the laughter of kids having fun as they master new skills.
Teachers are passionate about their work. They are smiling and engaged, helping students discover the joys of swimming. Parents look on delighted as they watch their children show off their new abilities.
We are proud of the swim school we have built starting 2001 and attribute our success to Njswim’s core values. They have been consistent since day one and continue to guide our integrity and growth as a top-ranking New Jersey swim school.
Here’s how to select the right swim school for your child.
Our “Learn to Float” Philosophy
Aleksandr Popov, a former Russian swimmer considered by many to be one of the greatest sprint swimmers in history once said, “The water is your friend … you don’t have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.”
This attitude of feeling one with the water is the guiding principle behind our proprietary “learn to float” teaching philosophy. Our teachers apply this Zen-like philosophy as they teach kids to swim.
At first, the focus is feeling comfortable in the water and developing good body position and breath control. Once the student is comfortable with these aspects of swimming, their teacher focuses on proper stroke technique.
Our ”learn to float” philosophy works for students of all ages. Our kids develop a fundamental sense of safety and awareness in and around the water. They have the advantage of gaining respect for the water yet learning to feel comfortable in it. Swim students carry this feeling with them throughout their life.
Our Teachers Are the Best!
A person needs many qualities to be an outstanding swim teacher. Not only do they have to know how to teach kids effectively, but they also have to:
- Be great listeners
- Have integrity
- Be engaging
- Be strong communicators
Good teachers also show empathy and gently and compassionately work with the kids’ frustrations and fears.
At Njswim, we have swim teachers—not instructors. Our teachers take a gentle and nurturing approach. They are never harsh, demanding, or judgmental.
Our swim teachers know that each child is unique with their own abilities and fears. And they work to accommodate each student’s changing needs as they develop and grow. Each child has their own unique experience and learns that swimming is truly fun.
Njswim classes are designed so kids can move up to the next level when their teacher feels they’re ready—not according to an artificial deadline set by timetables and schedules. Kids won’t feel left behind or afraid of being in a new class. They’re too busy learning and having fun!
We train our teachers and entire team in childhood development and how to best teach kids to swim. We are extremely proud of our dynamic, kind, and inspirational staff that understands the value of working together to help our students succeed.
We Keep Classes Small
No one likes to feel lost in the crowd—especially when you’re a child learning to swim. In a large swim class, a child may have fears of being overlooked, unseen, or even left behind. Some kids simply find a large class overwhelming.
We know kids learn best in smaller classes. So, for these reasons, and safety reasons, we keep our classes small — limited to only three kids. Children get to know and feel safe with their teachers and have fun with familiar classmates.
Our Pools are Warm
No one likes to feel cold and chilled. So, it’s easy to understand why a child wouldn’t enjoy learning to swim if their teeth are chattering and their body is shivering.
We keep our students happy and comfortable in our heated pools. The warm and smaller pools, combined with limited class sizes, create a comfortable and relaxing learning experience.
Our Classes Are on a Rolling Schedule
Our teaching philosophy fits in seamlessly with our class schedules. Students don’t have to graduate from one class and start a new one based on a school’s arbitrary class schedule.
Instead, we offer classes on a rolling schedule so that students can move up at the appropriate time and not have to wait months before the class is available again.
Our flexibility in class schedules also makes it easy for families to fit our classes in with their busy schedules. Parents don’t have to sign up their kids for long-term commitments or fill out paperwork for each new session.

We Value our Swim Families
We value our swim families and know how to show it!
Viewing areas are available where parents can watch their kids as they learn to swim. We know that this is lots of fun for parents and can even help some kids feel more safe and secure during their lessons.
Our swim schools are all kept clean with plenty of room for changing and other amenities.
Njswim also offers Open Family Swim. During these sessions, all family members can enjoy the water together in our comfortable pools.
Kids get to show off their new skills to their parents, and families get to have a fun time together and create wonderful memories—all in a safe and comfortable pool environment.
We currently offer Open Family Swim at Njswim’s Brick, Lakeside, Sparta and Turnersville locations.
Njswim Promotes Water Safety
At Our Swim School
We train our teachers and entire staff in lifeguarding. A lifeguard is always present on deck during swim lessons. Water safety is an integral part of our swim classes.
In Our Community and State of New Jersey
As partners in water safety, Njswim team members visit schools, community events, and local clubs to teach residents how to stay safe in and around water. We hold a strong commitment to maintaining safer communities and promoting water safety for children and adults alike.
Njswim supports other drowning prevention activities, including state legislation to make water education mandatory in New Jersey schools. Joe Oehme, Njswim’s Founder and President, is a founding member of the New Jersey Swim Safety Alliance.
